About the Staff
After a brief stint in the private sector, Sean Fitzgerald is back as Chairman Kaufman's Chief of Staff. He was previously Senator Charlie Shannon's Chief of Staff, and before that worked as the Communications Director for Somerville Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay. Over the past 20 years, he has also served as a campaign manager, statewide field & finance director, and media & message development strategist. Sean holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Northeastern University and resides in Somerville. He enjoys running, hiking and spending time with his wife and two children. Tim Miley, Legislative Director for Chairman Kaufman, grew up in Lexington, MA and graduated from George Washington University in 2008 where he studied Political Science and History. He also studied international relations abroad at King's College London. He previously worked as Legislative Director and Constituent Services Director for Senator Susan Fargo. Paola Maynard-Moll, Legislative Aide for Chairman Kaufman, grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2011 and Bentley College in 2006, where she studied English Literature and minored in Business and Women’s Studies. Through Northeastern’s cooperative legal education program she previously intered in the Executive Office for Administration and Finance and in the Senate Counsel’s Office. Jessica Whitman, Research Analyst, grew up in Wellesley, MA. She is in her final year at Suffolk University Law School and interned with the Committee prior to joining the staff full time. She graduated from Union College in 2007 with a major in political science. She spent terms abroad in Greece, France and Argentina and enjoys traveling and being immersed in other cultures. Brendan Greally serves as Chief Legal Counsel and Research Director to the Committee on Revenue. A graduate of Suffolk Law School in 2006, Brendan then attended Lund University in Sweden where he received his L.L.M. in International and European Union Law. After proudly graduating from Boston Latin School, he received his Bachelor’s degree in 1999 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Brendan moved to Roslindale after living in Galway, Ireland until he was ten and quickly became an active member of the community. He maintains a loyal following pulling pints at the popular Faneuil Hall establishment Hennessey’s and he enjoys running marathons, raising money for charity, and travelling. Katherine Ryan, Senior Research Analyst, joined the committee on revenue in April 2009 after completing her MBA in nonprofit management from the Heller School for Social Policy at Brandeis University. She has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 10 years, most recently as the Grants Administrator for the Access Strategies Fund, a private foundation that supports voter mobilization efforts in communities of color. Katherine received her Bachelor of Music from New England Conservatory of Music in 1995 and is an avid music lover. Karin Wall has been working in The State House for the past 10 years. She resides in Lynn with her husband Tom and has a grown daughter and son as well as 2 grandsons. In her spare time, Karin enjoys playing with her grandsons and doing all kinds of dance.
