“A Conversation with Jon Kabat-Zinn”

Representative Jay Kaufman’s award winning public policy forum, “OPEN HOUSE,” explores Mindful Leadership in, “A Conversation with Jon Kabat-Zinn”. The forum, the tenth and final of the 20th season, will be held on Thursday June 11th, from 7:00PM-8:00PM, at the historic Depot in Lexington Center (13 Depot Square in Lexington Center).

Jon Kabat-Zinn is Professor of Medicine Emeritus and creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at UMASS Medical School. He was a student of Buddhist teachers and Zen Master Seung Sahn, and was a founding member of Cambridge Zen Center.  His practice of yoga and studies with Buddist teachers led him to integrate their teachings with those of science. He teaches “mindfulness”, which helps people cope with stress, anxiety, pain, and illness. The stress reduction program he created, called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), is offered by leading medical centers, hospitals, and health maintenance organizations. Mr. Kabat-Zinn has shown the positive and healing effect MBSR has had on psoriasis, pain, anxiety, brain function, and immune function. He is a board member of the Mind and Life Institute, an organization that facilitates dialogue between the Dalai Lama and Western scientists.

Jon has been a leader in the field of mindfulness.  Jay has been trying to be mindful about his leadership.  Jay and Jon will begin by exploring the intersection of leadership and mindfulness and will then, as always with OPEN HOUSE forums, invite the audience into the conversation. Don’t miss this forum June 11th, from 7PM-8PM. As always, the forum will take its shape largely from questions from the audience. Questions can also be submitted in advance at www.jaykaufman.com, or tweet your questions to @repjaykaufman

In 1997, OPEN HOUSE was awarded the prestigious Beacon Award, cable television’s equivalent of an Emmy. The series was also named the best television series by Massachusetts Cable Television Commission. The OPEN HOUSE series is produced through a partnership between Representative Kaufman and LexMedia which records the forums for broadcast in Lexington and Woburn.
