“On the Record: A Conversation with Boston Globe State House Bureau Chief Frank Phillips & State House News Service Publisher Craig Sandler”

Representative Jay Kaufman’s award-winning public policy forum, “OPEN HOUSE,” changes course by turning the spotlight on its host, in the 11th forum of the 19th season, with “On the Record: A Conversation with Boston Globe State House Bureau Chief Frank Phillips & State House News Service Publisher Craig Sandler.” The forum will be held Thursday, June 19th, from 7:00PM-8:00PM at the historic Depot in Lexington Center (13 Depot Square in Lexington Center).

For the last nineteen years, Representative Jay Kaufman has hosted “OPEN HOUSE,” his monthly public policy forum. Each month, Jay has raised an issue of relevance and importance to his constituents, always with a focus on audience participation. In these forums, one or more guests have helped Jay guide the conversation and lend their expertise to the issue at hand. This month, Jay is the issue.  Beginning with two highly acclaimed journalists and then opening the floor to his constituents, Jay will field questions on any aspect of his public life – issues he has faced in the Legislature over the past 20 years, his priorities, successes, challenges, and disappointments. Opening questions will come from Frank Philips, veteran political reporter for the Boston Globe and longtime State House Bureau Chief and Craig Sandler, publisher of the State House News Service, the must-read publication for all serious political journalists.

What got you started in public service?  How has the reality of serving measured up to your expectations?  What changes have you seen in the course of the twenty years you’ve been in office?  What have been the greatest rewards and greatest sources of frustration?  What’s your greatest achievement? What’s your biggest failure? What are you going to focus on next? Find out the answers to these questions and bring your own. Don’t miss this forum June 19th, from 7PM-8PM. As always, questions from the audience will be encouraged. Questions can also be submitted in advance at www.jaykaufman.com, or tweet your questions to @repjaykaufman.

In 1997, OPEN HOUSE was awarded the prestigious Beacon Award, cable television’s equivalent of an Emmy, as the nation’s best government relations series. The series was also named the best television series by Massachusetts Cable Television Commission. The OPEN HOUSE series is produced through a partnership between Representative Kaufman and LexMedia which records the forums for broadcast in Lexington and Woburn.
