“Kaufman Welcomes the Five Announced Democratic Candidates for Governor”
Representative Jay Kaufman’s award winning public policy forum, “OPEN HOUSE”, opens the New Year with another special forum, “Meet The Democratic Candidates for Governor”. The event will be held Thursday January 16th, from 7:00PM-8:30PM at Cary Hall on 1605 Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington Center.
On September 16, 2014, Massachusetts voters will go to the polls in a Primary election to select the Democratic & Republican candidates who will then face off against each other in November. That winner will then succeed Governor Deval Patrick in January, 2015. The five announced Democratic candidates confirmed to participate in this forum are; Joe Avellone, Don Berwick, Martha Coakley, Steve Grossman, and Juliette Kayyem. Joe Avellone is a former Wellesley selectman who currently is Senior Vice President at PAREXEL International, a global bio-pharmaceutical research company. Dr. Don Berwick is a pediatrician who was appointed by President Obama to lead the Medicare and Medicaid programs in Washington, D.C. Martha Coakley is currently the Massachusetts Attorney General and was previously the Middlesex County District Attorney. Steve Grossman is the Massachusetts Treasurer & Receiver General, was formerly the Democratic National Party Chairman, and was CEO of Massachusetts Envelope, a Somerville marketing firm. Juliette Kayyem is a civil rights attorney who served as Governor Patrick’s homeland security adviser and also served as the Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security.
This forum will give Representative Kaufman’s constituents an excellent opportunity to learn about the candidates’ stance on a wide range of issues, and get a sense of who they are, what they stand for, and what their plans are for the next four years to keep the Commonwealth on the competitive edge. Come hear from the candidates and understand their positions on the issues that concern you. As always, the forum will take its shape largely from questions from the audience. Questions can also be submitted in advance at www.jaykaufman.com, or tweet your questions to @repjaykaufman. Don’t miss this special forum Thursday, January 16th, from 7PM-8:30PM.
In 1997, OPEN HOUSE was awarded the prestigious Beacon Award, cable television’s equivalent of an Emmy, as the nation’s best government relations series. The series was also named the best television series by Massachusetts Cable Television Commission. The OPEN HOUSE series is produced through a partnership between Representative Kaufman and LexMedia which records the forums for broadcast in Lexington and Woburn.
